Solo Mesmer Stygian Veil Build(parts of it)
Hi
I've based this build using some aspects of a Necro one, invented by Zha Dum Sin, a guildie of mine. But it's been mesmerised and improved speed wise.
In order to comply with my no Shan farming policy I stopped as soon as it proved to be viable(Shan is allowed to develop the odd build or so). I have faster ones for other professions so i'm using them
Anyway this build will allow you to solo farm much of the first part of the Stygian Veil and obtain the odd Gem, rare item or even a Green.
Lets Start Off with the build
Mesmer Assasin
Fastcasting 9
Domination 5
Illusion 16(12+4)
Shadow Arts 8
If you want the characters to add into your guldwars\template\skills directory there are found below(cut and paste them into a notepad file).
A1RBIDso+44ymghup3WzG8BGcA
Paste them in and save the file into your templates directory. I dunno call it Shan Stygian Farm Mk1.txt
Anyway the skills are
Shadow Refuge
Dash
Shadow Of Haste
Mistrust
Conjure Nightmare
Crippling Anguish(e)
Conjure Phantasm
Images of remorse
Now make sure you've got your pumps on because you'll be doing a hell of a lot of kiting.
Step 1.
Enter into the Stygian Veil and hang right. avoiding aggro'ing both the shadows and the mobs left and right
Step 2, take the quest from the adept of whispers then run left to the position shown. When all the mob has rushed to the whispers guy
Dash around the corner, hugging the left hand side.
Step 3
Run towards where the mobs came from
Step 4.
Set your Shadow of haste to be about where I am here. Although if the mobs are 'nervous' consider setting it back further.
Then select the nearest Hunger and run in
Chain cast Conjure Nightmare, Crip anguish and run towards your shadow of haste marker(use dash in emergencies)
Turn around then cast Images of remorse, run back.
By this time SoH will have trigged teleporting you away from harm
Step 5.
Repeat this until your target is about 1/3 health
Before you cast the degen next time cast mistrust on your target, this will stop Grenths from healing it. Then cast Crippling
Repeat the same until it is nearly dead.
Step 6 set your SoH location as before and do as step 5, except pile on the degen as much as you can.
Now, kiting like mad ensure your target is in aggro circle range when it dies. If is'nt no drop
Rinse and repeat. Dealing with the other types of Stygian monsters are just the same.
Some Hints.
It will take a few goes to learn how the mobs react, if they run towards and keep running there are 2 possible escape places, 1 where they came from, and one next to it
use Dash, SoH and sneaky kiting. The Best way is to try it, learn where they go and what they will do.
Drop's are'nt bad. Take a key for the chest nearby, I've had a couple of gems drop in the 6 or so times I did it. I'm sure there are improvements to be made, and i'm looking forward to seeing peoples tweeks.
Anyway, enjoy and have fun.
Shan

While I'm impressed that you've found a good solo build for this area, I have a feeling it takes an incredibly long time to get through the area using the degen and run tactic. I don't think I'd ever run this myself, but kudos to you.

it takes about 1 min to kill, but on a plat per hour basis from the limited runs I did easily beats UW farming I would guess as 1 gem=3-4 Ecto Atm.

LOL. It's only posted in two places. Here and on, GWonline. Some people read both, some one or the other. Makes perfect sense to share this with people, who can hopefully make some money, have some fun and help develop it.
One thing that was suggested was swapping CP with phantom pain. I found the deepwound duration to be too short lived to be useful, preferring to allow various combination to ensure max degen as much as possible. May be worth a look tho.

Hmm...I wonder if a Crip Shot ranger could do the same as a R/Me with Mistrust...
